Council Elections

Electoral Role

Avoid the disappointment of not being able to cast your vote at election time by checking at the Council Office to ensure that your name appears of the Electoral Roll. Most residents over the age of 18 years are eligible to be included on the roll. Please advise of any changes to your electoral roll status.

If you would like a copy of the Electoral Roll (Residents only) the Shire can provide them at a cost of $8.00 per roll.

Council Elections

Council elections take place when a Councillor's term has expired and there is more than one candidate standing for the position. Local Government Elections take place biannually on the first Saturday in May at various venues in the Shire.

A "Notice of Election" is published in the West Australian, Central Midlands and Coastal Advocate, Avon Valley Advocate and the Shire and Community News prior to an election. Postal and absent votes are also accepted. Voting in Local Government elections is not compulsory, however Council encourages every elector to have their say.

Residents enrolled as electors for the Legislative Assembly are eligible to vote and will automatically be included on the Council Roll.

If you are unsure if you are on the Victoria Plains electoral roll contact the Shire Office.
