COUGARS WIN GRAND FINAL
I
t has been over ten years of no basketball team in Calingiri to compete in surrounding competitions, there
was no uniforms or balls to be found.
But back in September last year with some effort a team was formed and joined the Wongan Hills Basketball
Association.
The team went through the year with only two losses and ended up 2nd on the ladder.
The cougars won the second semi final which put them into the Grand Final on the 17th March.
The Grand Final was a fast and tough game but the Cougars managed to stay on top of the opposing team
the entire game & ran out winners 59 to 42.
Congrats go to Nic Smith for his MVP award in the Grand Final.
Special thanks to Dan King, Julian McGill, Aaron Derbyshire and Ben Ballantyne for all their hard work in
organising the uniforms, equipment and the team in the beginning and throughout the year.
We will be looking to put another team in for next season in both the men's and women's competitions so
lookout later in the year to join up.

HEAVY VEHICLES
The Shire would like to advise all land owners that they have an obligation to the Shire to abide
by the law regarding the use of gravel roads in wet weather. There is to be no access to gravel
roads when it is visibly wet. Those who are found to breach these laws, will be liable for prosecu-
tion by MRWA under the heavy vehicle regulations.
It costs council a lot of money to repair these roads, and if this continues council may in the future
need to raise the rates base to keep these roads in a fit state for your property to achieve its
goals.
Council is also looking at having a text type system that will alert owners and contractors of
closed roads with in the Shire of Victoria Plains.
If any one sees heavy vehicles on roads that they should not be on, please inform the Shire or
Main Roads Heavy Division. All reports will be kept confidential.
