NEWS FROM THE CHAMBERS

Works Managers Rant

There has been a lot of damage being done to our gravel roads with transport companies carting various materials from farms

within and on the boarder of Victorias Plains.

The Shire of Victoria Plain has a policy in place which is a condition on the RAV network that no heavy vehicle is to be driven on

any road that is visibly wet. There are many roads that have a condition that you are required to have Council permission to cart

over a particular road and that it is not to be used as a through road.

This is costing the Shire a considerable amount of money and time to repair. If you or your contractors do not know what roads

have these conditions, they can find out all the information on the Heavy Vehicle Operations web site through Main Roads WA.

PUBLIC NOTICE

It has been noted that a number of Shire residents are taking water from the standpipe behind the Shire Administration

Office on Cavell .

potable and the Shire pays for this supply with ratepayer contributions.

If persons are seen taking the water without authorisation, registration information will be obtained and an invoice will

Exercise for those who are now a little bit more fragile

The Shire is investigating the possibility of facilitating a Seniors Only Exercise Class in Calingiri on a Friday morning.

This comes from suggestions made during the Age Friendly Community Planning.

Classes will provide participants with a well rounded, holistic exercise session that will improve strength and cardio-

vascular fitness in a safe setting. The instructor will ensure participants are exercising correctly, caring for their backs

and any other injuries identified. One suggestion from a senior member of our community is to host a class at the

Calingiri Gym to teach seniors how to use the equipment gently and correctly.

These classes will only happen if there is enough interest. It is hoped that perhaps car pooling arrangements can be

made among residents of other towns to attend, as unfortunately we can’t hold the classes everywhere. Please note

there will be a small fee involved.

If you think a Seniors Only Exercise Class is a good idea and would be interested in attending please contact Jaime at

the Shire on 9628 7004 or email
