Spread kindness this February
The festivities of Christmas and the New Year are over and it’s back to school and work. Have you thought about how you will
manage your post-holiday blues?
The Wheatbelt Health Promotion Network is promoting ‘Feel Good Feb’ this month, with a social media campaign promoting ran-
dom acts of kindness designed to put a smile on local’s faces.
The Feel Good Feb initiative encourages everyone to complete random acts of kindness for others, and then share a description
or photo to spread the message.
The Feel Good Feb initiative was started in the Eastern States by founder Linda Pang. Linda says, “there’s been research to
prove that acts of kindness spread in a cascading effect throughout social networks – kindness breeds kindness – and also that
generosity and acts of altruism are great for your own mental health as well as others.” Since then the message has continued to
grow.
Act-Belong-Commit Project Officer, Marissa Yeo said Feel Good Feb was about promoting a simple but significant way people
could make a difference to their own lives and the lives of others.
“Acts of kindness, however small or large, have the potential to make someone else’s day, they’re a great way to get a mental
health boost too,” she said.
“It could be anything. Shouting someone a coffee or giving a gift to a stranger, but it doesn’t have to cost you money. Offering to
return someone’s trolley to the trolley bay, volunteering your time to a not-for-profit or charity, giving someone an honest compli-
ment or smiling at a stranger are all completely free and have the potential to completely brighten someone’s day.”
The Wheatbelt Health Promotion Network encourages people to post their stories and photos of random acts of kindness to the
My Healthy Wheatbelt Facebook page to help spread the message. Don’t forget to #actbelongcommit and #feelgoodfeb.
