Shire of Victoria Plains

6

As the Easter holiday approaches, the Shire of Victoria Plains is encouraging the community to participate

in the WALGA RoadWise Program’s

Blessing of the Roads

campaign by promoting road safety messages to

friends, families and colleagues.

The

Blessing of the Roads

campaign is aligned with

Towards Zero,

WA’s road safety strategy 2008 – 2020, which

has a long term vision of a road transport system where crashes resulting in death or serious injury are virtually

eliminated.

We will be hosting a

Blessing of the Roads

event at 10 am in the car park just north of the Church on Great

Northern Highway in the New Norcia town site on 24

th

March 2016 followed by morning tea at the New Norcia

Hotel to acknowledge the efforts of our emergency services personnel, road designers, volunteers and others as

well as bringing road safety to the forefront. For further information please contact Sue Mearns at the shire on

9628 7004 or Lucy Nicholson at the Benedictine community.

With the Easter long weekend approaching and many of us planning to travel the Shire of Victoria Plains is joining

with WALGA’s RoadWise Program to take part in the

Blessing of the Roads

campaign.

As you get ready for the Easter weekend please remember to:

Be responsible for our actions when using the roads and assist in creating a safe road system.

Turn off your mobile phone before driving.

Travel at a safe speed - adapt your speed for the weather, light, and traffic and road conditions.

Belt up when travelling in a vehicle.

If you are planning to drink, arrange a skipper, organise public transport or stay overnight.

Take a break, have a rest or if possible swap drivers to prevent fatigue. Stop at one of the many Coffee Stop

providers or operating Driver Reviver sites across the state; visit the RoadWise website for locations;

www.roadwise.asn.au .

Through the

Blessing of the Roads

campaign, we are encouraging everyone to work together to ensure the roads

are safe in the lead up to and during the Easter weekend.

For more information about the campaign, please visit the RoadWise website,
