Newsletter submission – July 2017

From the Desk of the CEO

The June Council meeting was well attended and it is great to see the community interest and participation. Just in

case you couldn’t attend, please continue reading for an update on what took place.

Public Question Time

There were a number of questions from residents with regards to the operations of the Works Depot and grants that

have been applied for or received by council for community projects in the past 12 months. There was also interest in

the planting of trees on Mofflin Street including reticulation and the removal of an unlicensed vehicle.

Other items were as follows:

Extractive Industries Approval

Council considered a request for a proposal for extractive industry (being gravel and sand) on lot 127 (668)

Mogumber-Yarrawindah Road in Mogumber. The application was granted approval with a range of conditions which

are outlined in the minutes of the meeting and can be found at

http://www.victoriaplains.wa.gov.au/documents/

Council Committees

Council continued it’s progress in establishing a Suicide Prevention committee which will comprise 3 “foundation”

members and the CEO. Council is also forming a committee to work through recognition of Aboriginal Heritage and

native title issues with SWALSC. Upcoming meeting dates are yet to be confirmed.

Delegations Review

Council has now revoked delegation No. 2.5: Application for Donations or Financial Assistance. All applications for

donations or financial assistance will now be decided by council at its ordinary Council meetings.

Council Finances

Payments made from the Municipal Bank Accounts and endorsed by Council, totalled $480,263.88 for the month of

May 2017.

Community Donation

Approval was also granted for a donation to Free Spirit SMCC for trailer repairs provided the trailer is only used for

community activities and the Shire is recognised as a contributor.

Community Request Submissions for the 2017/18 budget have been received and the following applications were

approved:
