NEWS FROM THE CHAMBERS

Mid Year Budget Review

Council at the February meeting received the six

monthly budget review which after all the

changes and projects to date showed that the

Shire is still on target with a surplus of $2,214 up

very slightly from the balanced budget adopted in

July 2015. The main changes were a decrease of

$31,573 in the estimated carried forward surplus

from 2015 offset partly by an increase in the

general purpose grants from the Commonwealth

of $23,780 there were also increased legal fees

of $70,000 a reduction in spending of $50,000 on

drainage in the Bolgart town site and $30,000 on

fuel and oil due to the lower prices. There were

other underspends and overspends making up

the difference and if any residents or ratepayers

want further details please contact the Shire and

we can provide those to you.

Simmo’s Mobile Scoop Shop

At the November 2015 meeting Council received

an application for a mobile food vendors licence

for a mobile ice cream shop to operate in the

Shire and resolved that this be advertised in the

newsletter for community comment and brought

back to the February meeting. The advertising

only prompted 3 residents to respond

(all positive) so Council approved licence subject

to the condition that they only operate in Victoria

Plains towns when local shops, hotels and cafes

are closed so they are not in direct competition

with local traders. Simmo’s Mobile Scoop Shop is

a mobile gourmet ice cream shop selling

products from Simmos in Dunsborough and is

not a “Mr Whippy” style van.
