Cancer support on offer in the Wheatbelt

Anyone affected by cancer in the Wheatbelt is being reminded about a local cancer support service.

Barbara Brennan, who has a background in health, took up the role as cancer support co-ordinator for Cancer

Council in the Wheatbelt earlier this year. Barbara works with Regional Education Officer for the Wheatbelt, Karen

Hansen.

“What we hear most often is clients telling us; ‘I wish I’d known sooner’ about Cancer Council services,” she said.

“I would encourage anyone affected and in need of support, to get in contact.”

She said Cancer Council offers a range of support services to anyone who is affected by a cancer diagnosis.

“It could be information about the cancer or the treatments available; emotional support or it could be financial,

practical and legal support,” said Barbara.

Cancer Council can also provide accommodation for any regional West Australians who need to travel to Perth for

cancer treatment.

Barbara who lived part time in the Avon Valley area for the last seven years said she was also pleased to have

recently become a ‘permanent’ local.

Although she is based at the Bridgeley Community Centre in Northam, Barbara is also available to contact and assist

all clients across the Wheatbelt.

Cancer Council CEO Susan Rooney said support for Cancer Council’s Ultimate Lifestyle Lottery
