NEWS FROM THE CHAMBERS

WELCOME TO OUR NEW CEO

December 12th 2016 marked a significant day for our Shire of Victoria

Plains. That Day we welcomed our new CEO Ms Glenda Teede to the

Shire.

She comes to us with some twelve years experience as a CEO in

places as varied as Bidyadanga (south of Broome ), far North

Queensland and most recently West Daly (Northern Territory ). She

has also worked for Horizon Power as District Business Manager in

NW of WA and has had some five years as an Independent Board

Member

of WA Fire and Emergency Agency.

Your council undertook an extensive search for a replacement CEO for Harry Hawkins which involved

engaging John Phillips of Toodyay as a consultant . Over thirty requests for details of the position were

shortlisted to seven people whom were interviewed by all Councillors. Two candidates were asked to

give a second presentation and Glenda Teede was unanimously selected for the CEO role.

Many of the Shires residents have met Glenda and I am confident have been impressed by her open

and welcoming manner and her ability to recognise the basics of the issues raised.

Some change in the way the Shire is managed will occur but your Council is confident that the future will

expand on the solid foundation our previous CEO's have, with the help of our Finance Managers,

brought to our Shire. Compliance with the Shires statutory roles will be one of her priorities.

On behalf of us all I welcome Glenda and look forward to the Shire under her administrative role as

continuing to be a great "PLACE TO GROW".

David Lovelock (Shire President)

2017 Australia Day Breakfast in Bolgart

Australia Day was celebrated by about one hundred people of all ages at the Bolgart sports centre where we

were treated to a great sausage, egg, onion and tomato Bbq put on by the Bolgart CWA and Progress

Association. Delicious fruit juice was provided by the Michael Brothers, Bolgart. The flag raising done by DCEO

Ian Graham and Chanel Duggan and singing the national anthem was followed by Australia Day WA Community

Citizen Of the Year presentations.

Shire President Cr David Lovelock presented Mr Gavin Halligan of New Norcia with a Citizen of the year

medallion and certificate in recognition of his tireless volunteer work over more than thirty years with the St Johns

Ambulance and New Norcia Fire Brigade and as its Captain for several years.

Brian McGill was also awarded as joint Citizen of the Year by Cr Neville Clarke for his many years of service to

the Bogart community especially for the Sports clubs of the area and help he has given to many in times of need.

Senior Citizen was awarded to Phyllis Toms of Mogumber presented by Cr Jim Kelly for services to the

Mogumber community including running the library and Post Office there.

Youth Citizen award was awarded to Chanel Duggan for service to the Yerecion community and working along

side our Shire CDO Jaime Hawkins helping with Youth in our Community by Cr David Smith. She had earlier

raised our Australian flag.

Two groups were also recognised for very different community involvement .

The Kirkoff Carnaby Cockatoo group for their passionate efforts on behalf of This endangered species in

Mogumber Town Reserve received an award presented by Deputy President Cr Stephanie Penn.

Finally Cr Jacqui Crowther presented a group Citizenship award to the Victoria Plains sub centre St Johns

Ambulance for their selfless attention to those needing that service and the overarching feeling of security we

have just knowing they are there should they be needed.

The severe heat of the day dulled enthusiasm for any outdoor activities but all reports were of a very positive

nature for the event.
