Councillors Allowances Increased

Council at its meeting in May voted to increase the Annual Meeting Allowances they receive from $6,000 per annum to $7,500 per

annum. In addition to this allowance the Shire Presidents allowance increased to $6,500, the Deputy Presidents allowance to

$1,625 and all Councillors telecommunications allowance doubled from $500 to $1,000.

The independent Salaries and Allowances Tribunal released their latest ruling in April 2016 in which they determined for a Shire

the size of Victoria Plains the allowances should be within the following ranges; for a Councillor from $3,553 to $9,410 per annum,

for a Councillor who is the Shire President $3,553 to $19,341 plus a Presidents allowance of $508 to $19,864 with the Deputy

President receiving an additional allowance equal to 25% of the Presidents allowance. The ICT (telecommunications) allowance

was set to a range between $500 and $3,500.

CBH Proposal for Bin Road Calingiri

The CBH group have been working with the Shire on a proposal to realign Bin Road Calingiri however they have received a quote

for the deviation of $4m and have now written to the Shire with an alternative proposal.

Their alternative proposal is for the;

permanent closure of Bin Road from the Calingiri New Norcia Road to the point where the realignment was to enter the

current Bin Road,

This section of road reserve to be acquired by CBH

CBH to commit to not blocking the rail crossings apart from brief moments when shunting or travelling through to Miling

Should the rail line be reinstated to long train capability CBH commit to keeping trains short or constructing the realigned Bin Road

as per agreed design.

Council resolved not to accept the alternative proposal as CBH have created the issue with Bin Road more than 15 years ago and

that representatives of CBH be invited to the June Council Meeting.

Gillingarra Glentromie and Wirrilda Roads Intersection Costing

Council at the May meeting discussed the revised costing for the realignment of the intersection of Gillingarra Glentromie and

Wirrilda Roads. The cost to leave the intersection as is with a bitumen seal has been calculated at $293,305 while the cost for the

realignment presented to Council was $553,735 although after meeting with road contractor Jamie Shaw from Muchea Grading

that cost has now been reduced to approximately $320,000. As the intersection in its current format was ruled unsafe in a road

safety audit carried out in 2011 and many of the safety issues will be addressed in the realignment of the intersection together with

ratepayer Peter Mackie from Gilmac (Mackie Hay) underwriting the quote from Muchea Grading Contractors the realignment is

certain to go ahead as soon as final approvals from the Regional Road Group are received.

Attention parents of boarders or young people away for school, study or travel:

Keeping young people in the area or attracting them back after study is something many around Victoria

Plains identify as being important.

The Shire is keen to hear from all our 12 – 25 year olds, regardless of whether they are currently away,

about what would make the area more appealing for youth.

For everyone else, please fill in the survey, and also keep an ear out for a youth

engagement activity, coming to your area soon!
