Animal Welfare

Animal welfare and cruelty issues should be reported to the RSPCA on 9209 9300.

Stock Control

The total area of the Shire comprises of residential and rural properties. Various types of stock are kept within these areas

which occasionally wander on roads and public places.

All stock owners must ensure that fences and gates are in good repair and to a standard capable of containing the type of

stock normally held on the property.

Owners of stock that wander on roads or in public places and cause, or are deemed to have caused, an accident may be

liable for any damages resulting from such an accident.

Any stock found to be wandering may be impounded by the Shire Ranger. Please report wandering stock to Ranger

Services on 9628 7004 or 0428 149 174

Nuisance Dogs

Barking is a dog’s natural means of communication and often signifies its alertness to danger or intruders. However, a dog that

persistently barks to a degree or extent not normally habitual in dogs constitutes a nuisance. Ask your neighbors to let you know if

your dog is causing a nuisance when you are not at home.

The cause of nuisance barking may be:

· Lack of training

· Insufficient exercise

· Loneliness

· Inadequate shelter

· Ill health, or

· Deliberate or unintentional provocation by people or other dogs.

If you are experiencing problems with nuisance dogs in your area contact Ranger Services on 9628 7004 for

advice.

Dog Attacks

It is an offence under Section 33D of the Dog Act 1976 for a dog to attack or chase any person or animal whether or not any injury is

caused.

Such incidents should be reported to Ranger Services as soon as possible.

The owner or person responsible for a dog alleged to have been involved in such an incident could be liable for fines up to

$10,000. It is important to report an attack as soon as possible providing as much information as you can. Contact Ranger Services

on 9628 7004 during office hours to report a dog attack.

For reporting incidents after hours ring 0428 149 174.

Please provide as much information as possible including the address of the alleged offender if known. If the matter is a life

threatening situation ring the Police immediately on 000.

Lost and Found Dogs

If you have lost your dog report it to Ranger Services on 96287004. Rangers will record your information and the description of the

dog. This information will be entered into our lost dogs register and used to match with dogs that have been impounded by Ranger

Services. It is also a good idea to contact nearby local governments.

If you have found a dog within the Shire contact Ranger Services on 9628 7004. If the dog has a Shire of Victoria Plains registration

tag please provide the number. If a dog has no identification you can either:

· Drop the dog off at the Shire Pound.

· Contact Ranger Services on 9628 7004 or A/H 0428 149 174 to arrange for the dog to be picked up by the Ranger and

impounded.

Please note Rangers will not pick up a dog if no one is home.
