NEWS FROM THE CHAMBERS

From the Desk of the CEO

The May meeting of Council was well attended with over 15 members of the public coming along and asking a

number of questions which included:

Requests to review the kerbing installed on Edmonds Street

Amount of money spent on Shire owned properties

The YTD expenditure for the Mogumber Rodeo

The removal of nesting boxes at the Mogumber Reserve

Lack of community consultation with regards to a proposed quarry in Mogumber in addition to probable

increased traffic and land valuation in regards to proposed works

A query relating to slump tests on footpaths

Responses to these questions can be found in the minutes of the meeting with copies either available on-line or

at the Shires Administration Centre, Calingiri.

Mr Gary McGill gave a presentation to Council following the recent ANZAC Day commemorations and thanked

the works team and the Works & Services Manager for their efforts.

Cr Penn presented a petition from the community with regards to the trees located on Edmonds Street with 6

people requesting that the trees be removed and replaced with smaller bushes and one person requesting the

trees be heavily pruned.

Cr Smith commented that the Shire should send representation to the 2017 National Road Congress to be held

in Albany in November. It was discussed that prices are to be checked when registrations open prior to a

resolution being made to Council to determine who will attend.

Shire of Victoria Plains Policies

Following on from a recent review of the Policy Manual, two new Shire policies were adopted. The Policy

Manual can be accessed on the Shires website or a copy can be obtained from the Shire offices.

New Policies:

Responsible serving and consumption of alcohol on Shire premises Policy

Operation of bank account Policy

Members Fees & Allowances 2017-18 Financial Year

Council resolved to keep the fees and allowances paid to Council members at the same amount as the 2016-

2017 financial year being as follows:
