Wildflower Drives
With so much incredible wildflower diversity across WA, there’s no shortage of places near and far to lap up the spectacular natural beauty. Pack your backpacks and throw on your sneakers, because the perfect time to explore is now.
The Victoria Plains is a great place to start.
In spring and early summer, the region comes alive with vast array of different colours enthralling visitors with its natural beauty. Just 149km Northeast of Perth, a trip to Victoria Plains is a great day out! Pack a picnic or stop in for a burger at the Bolgart Hotel, but don't miss the magic of wildflower season.
Old Plains Road 29km
In the early days, there was no direct route to Perth from the north, so travellers left the Benedictine Mission at New Norcia for Toodyay along a track that became known as the Old Plains Road. Lovely farming scenery and magnificent wildflowers makes this drive one of the finest rural drives in WA. A 5km Strip of land, 60 metres wide, known as the Old Plains Nature Reserve. This is an area of diverse woodland teaming with birds and lizards and even the odd echidna.
Travel further and you will get to the Rica Erickson Nature Reserve. This area is known for its spectacular Spider Orchards and Blue-eyed Smokebush.
Calingiri Road 29km
West of Old Plains Road is shaded by Marri and Wandoo with a dense understory of Woolly Bush, Parrot Bush and Yellow Featherflowers. Stop at the parking bay and wander along the various tracks to view and the beautiful dense array of wildflowers.
Bolgart West Road 17km
Take a drive through the tree-lined tunnel with splashes of colour in the spring and magnificent summer Christmas trees.
Old Telegraph South Road 9km
In early summer, this area is alive with colour from pink, yellow and white everlastings
Bolgart to Calingiri 22km
Detour off the main road to bring you to the undeveloped part of the Wyening Townsite. Many different types of orchids, Cottonheads, Cat Paws and Trigger plants are found here.
Calingiri to New Norcia 28km
View the towering York Gums and White-barked Wandoos along this stunning rural road. Snaking out to Calingiri from New Norcia, this is a must see when visiting Victoria Plains.

Stick to the paths to avoid trampling the wildflowers.
